Baker Lawley and the other Editors at The Razor Lit Mag just gave me the good news that I won their Fall Fiction Open Contest, for "Return Trip," a stand-alone story excerpted from my novel NO ROADS HOME. This story will be published next Fall in a special issue also featuring finalists. Meanwhile, I’m writing a “Before the Razor” essay for them about my process for that story, and will be interviewed for a podcast this summer. The Razor takes their name from the Chekhov advice to cut the first three pages of any first draft. Having cut probably thousands of pages over the years, I like that name.

JAY LEE ELLISI write novels, stories, and poems, and sometimes literary criticism. I also play jazz drums. For me, writing is rewriting, so I'll just use this page not so much as a "blog" as a place to post news. Archives
